Berlin – activitiy based, dynamic, multimodal

Airport Schönefeld (BBI) will soon be opened and replaces the airport Tegel. A city of business, a city of politics and a city for tourists - and they all will enter and leave Berlin from south-east rather then from north-west. Passenger flows will differ for sure. But what transport mode will they use? What will be the impacts for the different public transport providers of Berlin and Brandenburg? Which bottlenecks will disappear and where will new ones occur? What will be the travel demand for off-peak hours and who will actually react more of these changes?

Senozon built—in cooperation with PTV Berlin—a fully intergrated activity based demand and dynamic traffic assignment model for the BVG (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe; the berlin public transport company) on very detailed spacial resolution for the year 2008 and—as a prediction model—for the year 2015. It is the basis to find and analyse future bottlenecks, delay of services and identification of potential future customers of the BVG. Furthermore, the model allows the BVG to include and test case studies to optimize their service for the future travel demand.
